He owned a radioshack when I was a kid, so we always had “Tandy” this and “Realistic” that… we never wanted for gadgets, that’s for sure! And now, this dark thirst planted in me at such an early age, I’ve inevitably crossed the threshold into “wearables”. This week of comic updates will be about the dark pit of technology.
So! I bought a pebble. At Vancaf, there was a guy who had one and said he didn’t like it, but then proceeded to tell me like 30 things that were amazing about it. By 2015’s standards, it’s on the bottom end of the wearable tech-spectrum, or techstrum (you heard it here first!), but it does pretty much everything i need it to do. AND, it was only $80, compared to the Sony Smartwatch 3 (at $250) and the Samsung Gear 2 (at $295), which were the two watches that i first wanted to get.
The reason I want a smartwatch, other than because it makes me feel like james bond, is because I bike to work a couple days a week, and it NEVER FAILS- that is when i get most of my text messages. Or when i’m driving. OR, when I’m starting a band rehearsal and don’t have my phone on me and i’m wondering where people are. but let’s go back to the biking example! I hear my phone vibrate in my backpack (my phone is a Note 3, it’s too big to fit in my pocket when I am biking). I have to stop, get my phone out of my backpack, check it, and nine times out of ten, it’s a message that didn’t really need me to pull over for. BUT there is that ONE time where i need to respond right away. SO! Now, i can just look at my wrist. BAM. notifications! If i could leave my phone in my backpack all day, I would be a happy man. Ah, who am I kidding- I’m a pretty happy man one way or the other!
Ultimately, i just think smartwatches are cool. I used to have a calculator watch.
